Marilyn Robinson, a London-based pop singer, sat down with The Insider to detail his history with Rossdale and what the two discussed when they recently spoke on the phone.
"I'm getting kind of the gist that people want me to be somehow to blame for the marriage split and that's just not true," Robinson, who said he wasn’t surprised by the divorce announcement, clarified up front. "I love Gavin. I've always loved Gavin. I crave him to be gleeful and Gwen to be happy and the kids to be happy."
Robinson met Rossdale in the initial ‘80s, when the two were both up-and-coming musicians in the London club scene. The pop singer says he and the Bush frontman had a romantic relationship and contain stayed in touch over the years.

After almost 13 years of marriage, Gwen Stefani has filed for divorce from Gavin Rossdale. The No Doubt artist cited irreconcilable differences for their split, according to TMZ.
Stefani filed her petition for divorce on Monday 2 August, Los Angeles Superior Court spokeswoman Mary Hearn said.
The former couple, who married in 2002, have three sons together, and are seeking joint custody of their children Zuma, Kingston and Apollo.
“While the two of us possess come to the common decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we persist partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment,” they said in a statement.
“To that end, we respectfully request privacy from the media during this time.”
Speaking to Cosmopolitan in March this year, Stefani described the pressures of being a couple in the public eye.

Gavin Rossdale is regretting his confession to Details magazine about his gay affair with cross-dressing singer Marilyn.
And it seems the gender bender British pop star isn't cheerful with the Bush frontman's revelations either.
Marilyn has spoken out to a U.S. magazine and says he wishes Rossdale had never denied in the first place that the two were romantically involved.

He told In Touch: 'I find it sad that when I spoke out about what we had, I was labelled a tattletale - and now, Gavin is using it to promote himself'.
Rossdale, 44, who is married to No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani initially denied the gay relationship back in 1995 when Boy George wrote about the couple's affair in his memoir Take It Like A Man.
The 47-year-old says that while he's now 'pleased that Gavin is finally able to be truthful about our relationship' he wishes the rocker 'could have come to terms with this 15 years ago'.
