Welcome to Trinity Place

Our mission is to facilitate homeless lesbian, gay, fluid, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ*) youth in New York City to safely transition out of the shelter system and grow into independent, positive, and generative adults.

Trinity Place Shelter is a non-sectarian, bed transitional shelter that is uncover all year to provide LGBTQ youth with a safe place to hibernate, eat, store belongings, and have access to transportation. Through strong local people partnerships, we are proficient to provide access to comprehensive medical services, case management, education, career counseling, art classes and mental health services. All youth referred to Trinity Place have been identified as interested in, or are actively seeking, employment or schooling.

We provide a unusual, family-like environment where the youth receive the respect, individualized care, and basic services so often denied them. LGBTQ+ youth experience a much higher risk of homelessness than their peers. Once on the street, they face additional hardships because of stigma and discrimination. This is the life for LGBTQ+ youth across all of the cities where Covenant House works.

Why Execute LGBTQ+ Youth Experience Homelessness?

Like many youth facing homelessness, it's often not just one thing that causes them to experience homelessness. Some may be facing poverty or subjected to abuse in the abode, while others may own aged out of the foster care system.

But the most common reason that LGBTQ+ youth experience homelessness is family conflict due to their gender culture or expression or their sexual orientation. Many fresh people tell us heartbreaking stories of rejection and eviction that led to life on the streets.

True Colors United is guided by two core beliefs: those who’ve experienced an issue first-hand hold the keys to the solution, and improving outcomes for the most impacted communities benefits everyone. 

Advocacy

Our team works at the federal, state, and local levels to assure vital funding, policies, systems, and protections are in place that meet the needs of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We partner with little people and with national,  state-level and local advocates in advancing policies that bring us closer to a future where housing justice is a truths for all. 

Youth Action

Our team works with young people all over the nation to ensure that youth-led policies, systems, and protections are in place. Youth are the experts in their own experiences. We create spaces and opportunities for young people with lived experience of homelessness to learn from each other, strategize together,

Ali Forney Center aims to protect homeless LGBTQ+ youth from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to be independent. Founded in , it is now the nation’s largest and most comprehensive entity dedicated to homeless Gay youth.
