“High School Musical” and “Hocus Pocus” director Kenny Ortega has been featured on Variety’s annual Control of Pride list for 2020, prompting him to discuss his experiences functional as a gay guy in the entertainment industry, as well as the resonance some of his works have had with LGBTQ audiences.

Variety’s Power of Pride list seeks to highlight progressive LGBTQ creators, honoring “those in the LGBTQ community who employ their spotlight to foster understanding and promote inclusion in the entertainment industry.”

Variety noted that Ortega’s operate tends to have a universal queerness that speaks to younger LGBTQ audiences. “Most queer kids could relate to one of Ortega’s movies, even if they didn’t know they were queer while watching them,” the outlet wrote.

Ortega chalks this up to the fact that as a gay man, he often embeds his control queerness into the content he creates.

“I put a lot of who I am into my work,” Ortega said. “I represent , really all the way back from the earliest work that I’ve done, even as a choreographer in film and television. And I think, yeah, that it’s just there, and whether it’s screaming at you, or whether it

Ryan Evans 'confirmed' gay

Maybe the thread title should clarify who Ryan Evans is (a fictional character), since it's a very frequent name unremarkable/unmemorable name especially for posters who are not familiar with the source material.

The first post also doesn't clarify much, especially without clicking the link, for posters unfamiliar.

Is it really worth asking a mod to revise the title?

But I did assume many here would be familiar with the movie series

For those confused, Ryan Evans is a character from the High School Musical trilogy. He was rather over-the-top, and many viewers assumed he was gay, but it was kind of implied he dated a girl in the third movie.

In this TV reveal based on the production, this character was indeed confirmed as being lgbtq+. Kenny Ortega (who directed the movies) said he and his team set in many hints, but they were afraid the Disney wouldn't be ready for someone gay in the late 2000s, when these movies happened.

In a new interview with Variety, director Kenny Ortega opened up about his experience making the High School Musical series and said he thought the character of Ryan would have come out as gay later in life.

While it was never specified in the movies, in recent years many fans have created headcanons concerning Ryan's sexual orientation.

A lot of them see both Ryan and Kelsi — who went to prom together and had a subtle romantic storyline in High School Musical 3 — as gay.

But now Ortega has confirmed Ryan would probably have reach out as gay "in college", adding that his character in the movies was "less about coming out and just more about letting his genuine colours come forward".

He went on to say that while Disney is "the most progressive group of people" he's ever worked with, he had concerns that they "weren't ready" to have an openly gay character in a Disney Channel movie in 2006.

In an interview with TV Line in December last year, Lucas Grabeel — who played Ryan in the movies — opened up about the character's sexuality, and said he played the role based on conversations about Ortega's own high educational facility experience.

"Ryan was a guy who was really stimulate

Dirty Dancing. Newsies. Hocus Pocus. High School Musical 1, 2, and 3. Michael Jackson’s This Is It tour. Descendants 1, 2, and 3. High Academy Musical: The Musical the Series. New hit Netflix show Julie and the Phantoms. What do all of these things hold in common? They were all directed by one man.

Kenny Ortega is the man behind the lens in all of these. Who holds that much talent in their brains? It should be illegal to be such a musical genius. And he’s still creating this content at 70 years old.

A large majority of us should really thank this man for giving us a childhood. I can distinctly remember learning the choreography to “We’re All in This Together” in my basement surrounded by 10 screaming girls who thought Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens were endgame. The younger generation is now obsessed with his new work, including a reboot of High University Musical: The Musical the Series and Julie and the Phantoms.

I will now admit I am one of these obsessed kids. These shows hit. Kenny understands shows that rejoice diversity and inclusivity are becoming increasingly successful, for good reason, and he took the idea and ran with it.

For example, we all assume Ryan Evans fro
