The three-time Emmy nominated thespian Van Hansis first became familiar to us as Luke Snyder on As the World Turns.
We knew that Luke was same-sex attracted and involved with Noah then later sexy Dr. Reid but we never knew, for sure anyway, that the actor himself was gay.
Van, currently starring in the terrific web series The Eastsiders talks about his sexuality with his Eastsiders director Kit Williamson in an interview for The Fight magazine.
Here’s an excerpt from the interview:
You were out in your personal life, but you didn’t speak out about your sexual orientation at the start of your career. What was your hesitation?
I guess it was a combination of a lot of things—It was my first career, it was a alternative time back then in regards to LGBT stories being told—I mean, the Luke story was groundbreaking at the time. Now, I think every remaining soap has a lgbtq+ storyline. I was completely green, fresh out of college, and honestly, I was scared.

VanFan1 Is Van Hansis (Luke) lgbtq+ in real life? He mentioned before in interviews that he is unbent but there are alot of rumors going around that he is matchmaking app a fellow actor that does Broadway work. He also went with him to the Emmy’s and there are photograghs of the two together. I am a huge fan of Van Hansis but I have kind of lost some respect for him. I mean he is telling a story about a teen who lives life out and proud and lots of people look up to him for that. I guess I’ll just possess to take his pos for it that he is straight until he says otherwise. Anyways sorry for ranting I’m just a little upset. OTRADIO2 Many up and coming young actors, if they are same-sex attracted, do not want to go public with that information because it may hurt future casting possibilities. I am not saying that Van is or isn’t, but I prefer the way he interviews. Gay or not, he is very gay amiable, and that is heartfelt, not just bein supportive to get the role. Plot-Twister3 Why does it matter if he is or isn’t? GLandWT4 When Luke first came out that he was lgbtq+, it was said the actor was gay in real life and that’s why he wanted ATWT to create a rol .
