Lance Bass Reveals How ‘N Sync’s Joey Fatone Create Out He Is Gay
Lance Bass came out when he was 21, but the 'N Sync member revealed that one of his bandmates discovered his sexual orientation purely by accident.
Bass, now 34, revealed that Joey Fatone was the first member to learn he was gay.
"Joey walked in on me with the guy I was dating just caring of sitting on my lap. Straight guys don't do that," Bass recalled.
Fatone was totally unfazed by the discovery and fully supported his friend and bandmate.
"He was like, 'Dude, I don't care.' I'm like, 'Surprise!'" Bass said. "Joey was just love, 'Dude, I don't protect . I have so many gay friends -- I don't care.'"
Fatone wasn't the only 'N Sync member to react positively. Bass said the rest of the group was equally supportive of his disclose. "It was a rare months after that before I told the [rest of] the guys," Bass said. "I don't ponder anyone was surprised."
Today, Bass is the godfather of Fatone's daugher Briahna and is engaged to Michael Turchin.

*NSYNC's Lance Bass is opening up about his coming-out story.
In The Hollywood Reporter's Pride issue, which features an oral history of "How I Came Out in Hollywood," Bass described how he was "scared s---less" about people knowledge his secret the height of *NSYNC's popularity.
"The bigger we got, the more people are looking into your personal lives," he told the outlet. "I always knew I was gay. Five years vintage, I knew I was gay, but I also knew that it was something I'd have to hide the rest of my life because my Southern Baptist upbringing told me that."
"I knew, especially in the year 2000, that if anyone initiate out that I was gay, *NSYNC's career would be completely over, and these guys would loathe me for the unwind of my life," he recalled thinking.

Lance Bass Recalls Fellow *NSYNC Member Confronting Him Over His Sexuality: ‘I Was Freaking Out’
Lance Bass is now an out and proud gay man. But during his *NSYNC days, that definitely wasn’t the case.
In honor of the 20th anniversary of the album No Strings Attached, Lance spoke with Vulture about some of his memories from that hour. He recalled that he was “super in the closet” and couldn’t even admit to himself that he was gay.
So when his fellow boyband member Chris Kirkpatrick confronted him, he was pretty shell-shocked. While discussing the harmony video shoot for “It’s Gonna Be Me,” he explained,
“It was a huge day for me because it was the first day someone asked me if I was same-sex attracted. Chris Kirkpatrick sat me down and said, ‘Hey dude, are you gay?’ No one had ever asked me that.”
