This article was initially published in the Winter edition of the OCD Newsletter.

OCD, as we know, is largely about experiencing severe and unrelenting doubt. It can cause you to disbelief even the most basic things about yourself – even your sexual orientation. A study published in the Journal of Sex Research found that among a group of college students, 84% reported the occurrence of sexual intrusive thoughts (Byers, et al. ). In order to have doubts about one’s sexual identity, a sufferer need not ever include had a homo- or heterosexual experience, or any type of sexual life at all. I possess observed this symptom in young children, adolescents, and adults as well. Interestingly Swedo, et al., , create that approximately 4% of children with OCD encounter obsessions concerned with forbidden aggressive or perverse sexual thoughts.

Although doubts about one’s own sexual identity might seem pretty straightforward as a symptom, there are actually a number of variations. The most apparent form is where a sufferer experiences the consideration that they might be of a different sexual orientation than they formerly believed. If the sufferer is heterosexual

“Homosexuality may grant advantages to the community by special talents, peculiar qualities of personality, and the specialized roles and professions it generates. There is abundant evidence that such is the case in both preliterate and modern societies. Societies are mistaken to disapprove of homosexuality because gays possess different sexual preferences and reproduce less. Their presence should be valued instead for what they contribute constructively to human diversity. A society that condemns homosexuality harms itself.”                   — E. O. Wilson ()

THROUGHOUT recorded history, homosexuals have comprised a miniature but significant cohort of human society. Evidence of same-sex sexual behavior dates back to the oldest written texts, first noted in Egypt 4, years ago, and subsequently launch in ancient Greece, Rome, and China. Additionally, queer mating behavior has been documented in a broad range of animal species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. In Western countries today, the prevalence of male homosexuality is between two and eight percent. Nevertheless, same-sex physical intimacy is illegal in many nations, w

What about homosexual tendencies?
Some people say they are not practicing homosexuals, but that they include homosexual tendencies. They represent by this that they do not get committed in physical relationships but that they still divide those same sexual desires.

One person wrote mentioning that the tendency to sexually prefer those of the same sex is not a sin but only a temptation.

It depends on what is meant by 'tendencies.' My original definition of 'tendency' described those who though refrained from physical relationships still nurtured thoughts about sexual relationships. The tendency to allow sexual desires for those of the same sex to mentor one's thoughts is incorrect.

If, however, one does not accept such thoughts as proper but rejects them, then this gentle of 'tendency' is merely a temptation. Temptation becomes sin the moment we 'own' the sexual yearn for. If we hold the thought, then it becomes our own, and we will favorably respond toward it. In this case, being sexually aware of someone of the identical sex is not false.

One crosses the threshold when one responds favorably to that enticing reflection of being sexually end to that person. Those sexual desir

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, Pennsylvania, 5 DEC. (ZENIT)

The new Vatican document on the priesthood and homosexual tendencies mentions a range of conditions, from deep-seated homosexual tendencies to transitory same-sex attractions.

To learn more about the nuances of the range of lgbtq+ tendencies and their treatment, ZENIT turned to Dr. Richard Fitzgibbons, a psychiatrist, author and contributor to the Catholic Medical Association's document "Homosexuality and Hope."

Part 2 of this interview will arrive Tuesday.

Q: How would you distinguish between someone with same-sex attractions and someone with deep-seated homosexual tendencies?

Fitzgibbons: Those with deep-seated gay tendencies identify themselves as
homosexual persons and are usually unwilling to examine their emotional conflicts that caused this tendency. Strong physical attraction is present to other men's bodies and to the masculinity of others due to profound weakness in male confidence.
