From the press release:
The announcement comes as a relief to gay sporthorses around the world, many of whom have kept closeted their sexual orientation for fear of organism perceived as “different.”
Openly homosexual horses and horse alliances are rejoicing today as well. Says Ernie, founder of the Facebook community Support Gay Horses, “This is a canter stride forward for horsekind.”
National organizations including the USEF own already pledged their assist of the new policy.
But for some, the announcement comes just a brief too late.
“The official storyline is that we didn’t make the London Olympic squad because of a veterinary issue,” says Sinead Halpin, rider of four-star horse Manoir de Carneville. “Well, there’s more to the story.”

This story about gay horses is honestly heartbreaking
This may be one of the most heartbreaking love stories since Romeo and Juliet so hold on to something.
The Washington Post recently featured a story about two male horses, Simonsig and Triolo D'Alene, and the strange bond they developed.
On their first encounter at Hillwood Stud, the two horses connected instantly, drawn together almost magnetically and they barely left each other's side.
This went on for a while, with Triolo and Simonsig spending most of the year separate, coming back to Hillwood during the summer.
Tracy Vigors of Hillwood described the pair segregating themselves from other horses, "They would stand together, eat together, walk together, trough together, eat out of the same food manger..."
The horses defied usual behaviour, even becoming roommates in the alike stall which would usually result in the removal of their hind shoes. This didn't seem necessary in this case because the trainers were notified neither horse had any intention to cause injure to the other.

“I got into horses at a very young age,” he tells us. “I was only two when we went to a footpath riding place and got on a horse for the first time. I didn’t know how years later I would form it not only my sport, but my infatuation and eventual career.” Going to school at Colorado State University, Ryan is working towards a degree in Equine Science. He credits his work ethic to horses, “I don’t give up when things are hard.”
More than perseverance, horses have been a mirror to the benign of love and acceptance Ryan strives for in his personal life. “They’ve taught me patience, affectionate and acceptance more than any other thing could truly,” he says. “Horses have been my experience for 12 years and counting. I’ve had people ask me what I would be doing now if I never got into horses, and I can no longer react. Because I truly, truly have no idea.”
