“I always say — because our community is so large, you can travel to any place on a Friday or Saturday night, and it becomes a gay bar,” said Melissa Patterson, president of New Hope Celebrates, about the number of Diverse people living in and spending time in the New Hope/Lambertville area.
New Desire Celebrates organizes major Queer events (like Pride) for New Hope, Pennsylvania and Lambertville, New Jersey and preserves the community’s gay history. The organization wasn’t founded until 2003 — formed by a community of LGBTQ+ business owners who hoped to promote the town as an LGBTQ+ travel destination.
Nestled on either side of the Delaware River, New Long for and Lambertville have extended been recognized as the area’s own little Provincetown — coupling the picturesque charm of historic little town America with the safety and comfort of a queer-centered community.
“It’s always been a place that I would come to even before I lived here where there was a sense of safety,” Patterson said. “We phone it ‘the bubble.’”

New Prelude was located at York Route and Route 202 in Bucks County, PA. Ground-level bar and you stepped down a few steps to the dance floor. Weekly nightlife and Fantastic Halloween parties.
Oh, yes, undertake I remember don from The New Prelude! And Don of course, who was apparently one of the proprietors. He liked me and even though there was a five-dollar cover to get in there on Weekends, he always saw to it that
I never paid! After all five dollars was a lot of wealth to an underage young man way back then! Right after you walked in on the left was a little cubby – hole of a lock, where a nice adolescent man named “Glennie” was the barkeep. He even made ” The Orgasm!” It was a delicious drink, and the first time I had ever heard of it. And ” Glennie ” is still working in stunning New Hope to this very day! Yes, I also remember Nancy; a little on the tough side, though with a heart o’ gold.
